Keeping Romance Alive Long Distance

Are you in a mandated long-distance relationship?

This year of disruption has interfered with relationships everywhere. It’s become the great separation equalizer.

Only 1 Km separates you and your sweetheart, and you previously enjoyed daily visits. Or, multiple principalities separate the two of you, and you only got to spend weekends together. Either way, travel restrictions and health concerns have made those distances nonconsequential. There’s a physical wall between you that makes miles or kilometers irrelevant.

There is this forced separation. And keeping your Romance Alive will require becoming more creativity.

If you’ve determined to keep Romance Alive in your relationship, let your imagination guide you in ways that transcend the divide.

Start at the foundation for your romance. Which of these is your sweetheart’s preferred way to be romanced? With:

  1. Words,
  2. Gifts,
  3. Touch, or
  4. The gift of your Time.

If the preference is Words,

  • Send a personalized card, even a virtual card.
  • Find a song which communicates what you want to say and send the link.
  • Write a heart-felt, time-honored, snail mail letter.

If the preference is Gifts, order flowers, a souvenir from some place you’ve been or want to go. Do a little research and engage someone else to deliver your gift.

If the preference is Touch – this’ll take a bit more imagination. You can send:

  • Your scent in a hankie lightly soaked in a favorite perfume/aftershave.
  • Your touch via a plush animal you’ve hugged.
  • A blanket you’ve used to cuddle together.

If the preference is the gift of your Time, call, text, video chat – often. Take time every day to connect with your sweetheart and share time “together”.

Make the decision. Put in the effort. Defy the distance and keep your Romance Alive. Your relationship is worth it. Your sweetheart’s worth it! And your worth it!!
