Romance At A Distance

Keeping Romance Alive can, at times, be difficult. Obstacles called life-responsibilities get in the way. And when you and your sweetheart are physically separated for more than a couple days, it compounds those difficulties.

Here are some ideas to help ease the distance and keep your Romance Alive.

Send little messages. A “good morning, thinking of you” text or “wish I was coming home to you tonight” tells your sweetheart he/she is and has been on your mind.

Plan simultaneous events.

  • Watch a movie together. Some OTT (Over-the-top) media services feature a watch party option, allowing streaming and chat at the same time.
  • Fix and eat dinner together. Use the speaker phone feature or headsets to chat while making the meal. Then continue the usual conversation over dinner.

Send a care package. If your sweetheart is having a tough time or feeling homesick, a package directly from you or from you via an online retailer can bring cheer while reconnecting you.

Phone calls and text messages help overcome the distance, but there’s nothing like seeing your sweetheart’s face. {{{smile}}} Schedule a video chat. You can get a better sense of where your sweetheart is and can see reactions to what you say. It feels a bit closer.

Write or recite a poem or record a short romantic story in a voice message. Use your voice to convey your deep love. Play a song and let the troubadour express your feelings.

Plan a visit. Maybe travel to where your sweetheart is “stuck”. Or provide transportation for your sweetheart to come visit you. Planning together will make the visit more satisfying and build anticipation before the trip. Be deliberate and proactive. Work together. It will help keep your Romance Alive, no matter the physical distance separating the two of you.
