Anticipated Romance

Do you have something to look forward to?

Life was very busy for Ann and Frank. Jobs. Kids. School activities. Church. Groceries. Each commitment interfered with their relationship. There were occasional last-minute dinners out or maybe a movie. And while these helped, they didn’t really keep their Romance Alive.

On her commute to work, Ann realized they, as a couple, had nothing to look forward to beyond the repetitive merry-go-round of their lives. She decided to take action.

Later that evening, Ann handed Frank a coupon for a carriage ride in the Gaslamp district. She’d also made 6:30 dinner reservations for next Thursday evening at the Top of the Market. And she’d hired a sitter.

During the intervening days, the upcoming evening together invaded their minds. They’d exchange messages about it or just smile at each other.

Ann’s action did more than just plan a much-needed Romantic Moment. She used a technique that enhances such Moments. She generated anticipation.

Anticipation of an upcoming Romantic Moment creates a bond as both of you look forward to this special time together. In the intervening days, anticipation generates little moments of romance as each think about the future rendezvous. And in its own way, it amplifies the Romantic Moment.

Anticipation also reduces the likelihood the Romantic Moment will fall victim to the busyness of life. You intentionally prevent others from sidetracking these plans. Saying “no” to requests is easy – you already have plans.

We all eagerly look forward to future Romantic Moments. It puts a smile on our face. We might get a bit giddy as we think about the upcoming time together. And when you catch one other’s eye with that knowing look, it provides another quick connection. What Romantic Moment will you design for next week which will build anticipation?
